Happy New Year: The Year In Review

So, it is 4:14PM eastern time as I am typing right now and I wanted to reflect on some things that have happened in 2011 and hopefully predict some things for 2012. It has been a crazy year and somewhat of a let down year for me.

The plus side of the year was that I had the opportunity to do some new things in 2011 for my TV show "The Monster Hour". I did some interviews at the Boston World of Wheels where I was able to interview Butch 'Eddie Munster" Patrick and Jonathan Hillstrand of Discovery Channel's The Deadliest Catch. It was the first time I interviewed a person that was not in a rock band. I had some letdowns in the year when it came to the Vans Warped Tour (issues with the PR company) and the 2011 Mayhem Festival (No cameraman for this one). I made it all up with some interviews at the 2011 Rockstar Uproar Festival. I was able to interview Steven from Black Tide, Hell Or Highwater, and Lajon Witherspoon of Sevendust. The rest of the year fizzled out in the shitter when it came to interviews and that certainly pissed me off. Overall, it was a decent year for The Monster Hour and I hope 2012 will give me the reason I need not to say, "Screw The Show". I can only hope!

2011 was a decent year for my radio show at Bridgewater State Universities WBIM which is called "Pedal To The Metal". I crossed into new territories with that show that I never imagined would ever happen to me. I was able to do phone interviews with Playboy playmates, Michael Sweet of Stryper, DK Revelle of Jetboy, Louis St. August of Mass, Doro Pesch, and Robert Mason of Warrant. I suffered a little bit of the same fate of the Monster Hour with this show when it came to interviews after a while, but I'm optimistic for the new year. I really enjoy doing this show a lot and it was a passion that I had been missing for a while. I didn't feel I was getting jaded towards this like I did for The Monster Hour.

I'm a very honest person and sometimes the things I say do not come with a filter. Maybe, that is a bad trait that I possess or maybe it's a good thing. I feel like I should be honest to whatever fan base I have if there even is one. I really do hope that 2012 will be a bigger year for me. So, I say drink up tonight, have some fun, and be safe. I want to see everyone in 2012. Happy New Year!!!

Jon Bon Jovi Hoax

Whether you like someone because of what they've done artistically or you just flat out hate that person doesn't give anyone the right to claim that someone is dead. I've never been a big Bon Jovi fan, never have claimed to be, and most of my friends know that. Do I respect the man for what he has accomplished, of course! I would love to live one day in his shoes. Bon Jovi is one of the biggest selling acts to come out of the 80's and they still sell out where ever they go which a lot of bands from that era can't claim the same. He songs are really catchy and if your not careful, they get stuck in your head and that is probably what annoys most Bon Jovi haters (myself included).

The owner of a certain wordpress site did the unthinkable today by posting an article that Jon Bon Jovi had died by what looked to be a drug induced coma. That is not very nice! In fact, that is the lowest of the low and no matter how much I hated the guy I would never wish that upon him. This is where media literacy is needed in situations like this. When you decide to post an article, you better make sure you have the facts to back it up or you will look like an asshole. Right here is the very article that you can check out for yourself and below is a picture Jon posted on his bands Facebook page to prove he was still alive. http://dailynewbloginternational.wordpress.com/2011/12/19/international-rockstar-legend-jon-bon-jovi-dead-at-49/

2012

For 2012, I am probably going to do some different things with the show.Since we are only given two hour time slots, it seems that doing the album of the week plus a full play list will be a little impossible. So, what I may do is do the album of the week for hour one and then a regular play list for hour two. Every week, I am also going to give you the option to help me decide the album of the week every week. I will give you a list and you will vote on them. I may cut the segments due to the time constraints, so you may only get Mandatory Maiden and Three Shots of Lemmy. But the only thing I am thinking about right now is Vacation... See You in 2012

Remembering Chuck Schuldiner

I have to give props where there due and I give props to originators and Innovators. Chuck Schuldiner definitely possessed both of those qualities that I mentioned above. He is considered the father of death metal and made an impact on the world with music from his band "Death". It was ten years ago yesterday that Chuck passed away back in 2001 from his battle with cancer.

He influenced a whole slew of metal musicians and even artists like Max Cavalera, Trey Azagthoth, Mike Patton, Glen Benton, King Diamond, and Ville Valo had that much respect for him that they attended his memorial service. Korn, Kid Rock, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers auctioned off memorabilia to try and benefit Chuck when he needed money for his cancer research.

I will not sit here and say that I am the hugest Death fan in the world because I'm not fake, but I have a respect for him and I do own a Death record. I respect people that are different from the norm and do what they want to do and I felt Chuck did just that. So, here's a metal salute to Chuck Schuldiner!!!

Remembering Two Legends On December 8th

Today is such a sad day for any real music fan to have to remember. Two legends of two different worlds died on December 8th. I am going to give a small retrospect on the both of them in this blog.

On December 8, 1980, the rock world lost a man that meant so much to so many people around the world. His influence on the rock and pop world is so evident in anything that is done today and his music is still worshiped by so many. John Lennon was shot and killed outside of his home in New York. It was the saddest day in history that even Howard Cosell interrupted his broadcast of a football game to announce that John Lennon had been shot. There will never be another artist like John Lennon and there will never be a man that tried to do so much for world peace and love like John Lennon. God Bless John Lennon

On December 8, 2004, the heavy metal world lost one of it's brightest stars when a crazed individual shot and killed Dimebag Darrell. I always tried to imagine the shock and heartbreak that fans must have experienced when Lennon was shot and unfortunately I had to live that the day Dimebag died. The master of his instrument and the brainiac behind such brilliant albums from Pantera, Rebel Meets Rebel, and Damageplan. I always heard stories that Dime was one of the most sincerest artist that the metal world had. He was someone that always went out of his way for his fans and never complained about it. If there ever was an argument about metal being dead, it definitely died the day Dimebag did. God Bless Dimebag Darrell Lance Abbott.

Happy Birthday Randy Rhoads

I just wanted to wish one of the greatest guitar players to have ever lived Randy Rhoads a happy birthday. If he had lived he would've turned 55 today. Randy is someone that was taken away from us too soon. He was never able to live to his full potential and the albums that he did record like Blizzard Of Oz, Diary of A Madman, Tribute, and Quiet Riots Randy Rhoads years are the only things we have to remember the phenomenal guitarist. God Bless Randy!

Tomorrow's Show 12/6/2011

It's been a while since I posted one of these, but I'm doing because as far as I know there is only two shows left in the semester. So, tomorrows show should be a good one. We also have another edition of "3 Shots of Lemmy", Mandatory Maiden, and another segment of Cruicial Crue. Next week's show we are going to be playing some heavy metal Christmas songs to help us get into the mood of Christmas. so stay tuned.

Youtube page

Well, first I want to apologize to all my fans of the show because Tuesday's show was cancelled because I wasn't feeling very well. So, I promise that Tuesday's show is going to kick ass.

But the real business at hand needs to be discussed. I want to thank all the people that have checked out the youtube page for this show (www.youtube.com/user/pedaltothemetalradio). Because of you guys, Youtube has informed me that they think I can make money from ads that they'll place on the various videos I have posted on the channel. I had a friend of mine tell me that I should consolidate my youtube channels into one. I have one for my music video show called "The Monster Hour" and one for my radio show which is this one. Obviously, he is a fool and has no idea what he is talking about as usual. But, I love him like a brother and that is why he is my best friend.

I really do want to express the fact that without you guys, this would not be possible and no matter how many fans I have, I am thankful for all of you. For all the haters I have, I am also thankful to have you guys as well because I know how critical I am of others and especially myself. Let's rock on and keep the foot on the pedal.

Reasons For Format Change

There is a definite reason why I changed the format to my show and it's very simple. It pains me to do it because of my love for 80's music. It was the first type of music I ever got into when I was four years old (1986). My older brother was into Motley Crue and the other one was into Poison, Megadeth, and so many other weird mixes. Of course, I've discovered music on my own and love different types of metal, but the 80's will always hold a special place in my heart. I am just so sick and tired of waiting for has beens who will agree to do interviews and then not even bother to call or email me to reschedule. That was the straw that broke the camels back and I want to expand to interview other types of people besides guys who carry themselves like it's still 1983 (JSJ). So, enjoy the new format that will feature the best from the 70's, 80's, 90's and the new millennium.

Playlist for 10/18/2011

It was the last show to feature just 80's music and it sort of felt bittersweet. This show was for people who didn't know anything about 80's music. It was a quick two hour crash course for them and complete enjoyment for fans of the 80's. I also interviewed Playboy's Miss November 2011 Ciara Price (who is from Maine) for the show. Here is the playlist:

1. Never- Heart (VOW)
2. She's A Beauty- The Tubes

R.I.P Steve Jobs

The world has truly lost a brilliant visonary who changed the face of the computer world with his brilliant business sense in Steve Jobs. Steve changed the way we all listen to music with the brilliant IPOD. My IPOD is so important to me and I have used it to my advantage when it came to my radio shows back at Massasoit Community College and BSU. The Mac computers alone was a great invention and I have edited many radio bumpers, videos, and other various projects using Apple's supperior brand. Rest In Peace Steve Jobs.

Tomorrow's show (10/4/11)

On tomorrow's show we are going to play the usual suspects like Motley Crue, Skid Row, AC/DC, and plus we'll have some bands I haven't played in a while. We are also going to have a very special Vinyl Of The Week with Def Leppard and the usual Mandatory Maiden segment and Quintessential Queensryche segment as well.

I also wanted to mention that I am working on getting back past Pedal To The Metal guest Playboy Magazine's Miss April 2011 Jaclyn Swedberg and later this week I am going to interview Steel Panther's Stix Zadinia. His interview will be featured on next week's show. I am also still trying to get CM Punk to become a guest on my show so do me a favor, clog his twitter account with messages saying get interviewed by pdl2mdlradio. So tune and stay posted.

First Show Of The Semester

What's up people, it's that time of the year to start getting pumped up because Pedal To The Metal is back for another awesome year at WBIM 91.5FM Bridgewater. Last semester, we had some awesome guests like Robert Mason (Warrant), Michael Sweet (Stryper), DK Revelle (Jetboy), Louis St August (Mass), and the various Playboy Playmates that I've had as guests. This semester is looking to be promising as I am trying to get Sebastian Bach, Rachel Bolan, and so many more.

This Tuesday (Sept 13, 2011), I have Doro Pesch of Warlock fame as my first guest and it promises to be totally awesome. So there are two ways to tune into the show and I am going to give you the ways that you can tune in. If you live in the Bridgewater area, just simply turn your radio dial to 91.5FM or if you want to listen online, go to www.bridgew.edu/wbim/listen to listen in every Tuesday from 4PM to 6PM. You can also check out the other metal shows that are happening at the station like Severe Auditory Trauma and The Headbanger's Happy Hour. All good shows.
