Revolver Golden God Awards 2012

So, since I live on the east coast and the 2012 Revolver Magazine Golden God Awards were happening in LA, I stayed up just to watch it live thanks to Xbox. I didn't really care to hear who won the award for what, but I was more interested in the performances that were going to happen that night. I thought it was rather disappointing.

The first band up last night that I was able to catch was Trivium and I was disappointed because I missed Sixx AM. I don't have to say much about the band because I do not enjoy them or most of the artists on Roadrunner Records. They played their new single In Waves and I didn't realize they were playing a second song so I couldn't tell you what that song was called. It all sounded the same to me. I know that special on stage appearances occur all the time on this award show, so I was waiting to find out who they would bring out and it ended up being Rob Flynn from Machine Head and Corey Taylor of Slipknot. This was the only song I enjoyed because Matt Heafy was not singing and they did a cover of Metallica's Creeping Death.

The next performance that I had mixed emotions about was the Black Veil Brides performance and I say that because I am either hit or miss with their music. The part that shocked me was all the times the singer would look to the crowd and tell them, "I know you fucking hate me." I was a little baffled by it and I wanted to know more and I could see from the comments left on the Revolver page all the hate that was being directed towards them. Then, Andy the singer from BVB, went on to rant about how people refer to them as Emo faggots, etc. But I have to give him credit because he looked at the crowd and the camera and said that he didn't perform for the people that hate BVB, but for the fans of the band that showed up to watch. I'm not a big fan of the band but that has to do with the music and not the image of the band (even know they ripped off the Crue's Shout At The Devil outfits). One of the bands performances featured 80's icon Dee Snider of Twisted Sister as they covered I Wanna Rock and it was a decent performance.

The next performance belonged to a band that I wish would just die off and that is Evanescence. I have never been a big fan of the theirs and I felt they were really out of place on the bill. Will Hunt is an amazing drummer, but that doesn't keep me interested in wanting to watch.

Than, it was time to get heavy duty with some real bands and Slash featuring Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators were up and they absolutely rocked the house. The first song out of the gate was Nothing To Say (the version on Slash's first disc has M. Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold singing it). After that was done, the band performed the Myles track from the first solo disc, Back To Cali and the new track You're A Lie followed right afterwards. Their surprise guest was the legend Alice Cooper as they covered Alice's classic tune, School's Out.

The band that closed out the night was the legend Marilyn Manson and the crowd was pumped up to see him as I was as well. One of the highlights of the night was seeing one of the West Memphis Three come out to show his gratitude for all of the metal fans support. It was awesome to see Damien Echols introduce Marilyn Manson last night. Marilyn started with the Dope Show and it looked as like no was coming out to do it until the very sexy Taylor Momsen of The Pretty Reckless (Manson's current Tour mates) came out to finish the song and get a little sexual with Marilyn. Right after that was done, they performed the brand new single, but the best part of the night came right after as the legend Johnny Depp came out and played guitar for Sweet Dreams and  The Beautiful People. Manson definitely stole the show with that special guest and I can not wait to see him on April 27 in Providence, RI.

Overall, it was a decent night, but I feel Revolver needs to find a brand new host for the show because Chris Jericho just isn't cutting it for me.
